Sundays are for centering

I look forward to Sundays which is abnormal because that means that next day is Monday. But I like Sundays not because of what it anticipates but what it means to me at present. Sunday is the one day of the week that I reserve to center myself, regain my balance, and find peace within myself.

I start the day off by going to church. I practice my religion on a weekly basis and I mostly to do it because I raised that way. But also, of course, because I believe in my religion. My attendance is not solely because I know it's what my parents wanted or guilt because I would feel extremely bad if I purposefully skipped Sunday service. I attend because I also want to spiritually find peace. Everyone attends church in a different way. Sometimes people actively sing in the pews or volunteer to be a part of the service whether it be reading out loud or passing out the bread. For me, I just like to listen, let my mind wander wherever it goes, and just sort of meditate on my own with the help of the service readings in the background. Whenever I leave church, I feel refreshed and anew for the week.

For the rest of my afternoon I mostly try to relax and enjoy the day. I usually attend Kripalu Yoga which is always refreshing. I got to the point of my yoga practice that if I don't get my weekly one hour yoga, I can feel the difference. I feel as if I have old, leftover toxins in my body whether they be real or imaginary. I feel as if I'm more angry, bitter over small petty things in the rest of my week.

Whether your days for centering are Sundays, the middle of the week, or at the end. I encourage everyone to find time for themselves and find their balance each week. :)

Happy centering!

5 Ordinary Things That You Make Extraordinary

This weekend was probably the most enjoyable weekends I had in a while. But if you were to ask me what I did this weekend, I'd say I didn't really do anything special. I did what I usually did. I ate, watched TV, and casually perused online stores. But I spent my Valentine's Day weekend with someone special. It's the small moments that I enjoy the most. It's simple things

1. Walking in the snow

Normally, walking in the snow is a nuisance. Similar to a rainy day but different. It's cold and it takes extra effort to get around non-plowed walk ways. But instead, walking through snow had a magical touch to it that day. The snowflakes seemed to slow down just as they were about to reach us and gently floated onto our coats taking their respective places. The snow seemed to put everything on mute around us making it almost soundproof. The crunch of my footsteps synchronizing with yours.

2. Movie dates that never get old.

A movie date is a timeless date that couples of all ages use as their go-to for date night. But I'm not complaining. Going to the theater, picking seats, and just watching a new movie will never get old for me.

3. Breaking out in song.

"Hell yeah. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. Fuckin' right. Fuckin' right. Fuckin' right."

4. Watching TV

Whether it's a basketball game, cartoons, or even your regular overplayed chick flick I love just kickin' back and mindlessly watching while intertwined.

5. Eating meals

It's not so much the thrill of ingesting food, which I don't mind either. But it's the table conversations we have. It's when we sit face to face and the looks we give each other in between bites of food and sips of water.

All these things I try to not take for granted. Because in these small moments are the moments that I feel the connection most. For other couples. it's probably different things. It might be the extravagant weekend getaways with hotel stays and five star restaurants. It could be exploring the beaches, oceans, and hiking ranges. Even though I wouldn't mind all that, I don't need it to appreciate what I have. It's in these small moments that I enjoy time together the most.

Happy Valentine's Day.

Snow day!

I can't even begin to tell you how much of a summer person I am. Shorter days, colder weather, and the constant feeling of being a hermit just doesn't appeal to me as much as summer does. But sometimes winter has its moments. Yesterday, I finally experienced my first snow day after probably 2 years. The snow storm that came our way was absolutely perfect. It snowed all day and it left a beautiful, thick comforting blanket over everything.

Walking around yesterday gave me a new appreciation for nature. Although, for most people, especially adults, find the snow troublesome and just added on nuisance to their everyday commute. But the snow was just absolutely beautiful. The way the huge chunks of snowflakes just gently floated to the ground, camouflaging and unifying with the millions of snowflakes that came before it was pretty magical.

Snow is one of those things that kind of lost its luster for me. Like Christmas and Santa Clause, Easter egg hunting, and the thought of going to Sports World and Chuck E. Cheese. But I think it's one of those things that we take for granted and that we should take the time to rediscover these small, magical moments every time they come up. Even if they're not as significant as they were during our toddler stages. These are some of the things that used to all make us so happy to the point where there was absolutely nothing that could top our happiness. So why should they ever lose that meaning?

Welcoming February

It's finally February and the weather has finally given us a break here on the east coast. Even though it's a high of 30 degrees and to some of you that may mean tundra, for us it's a nice, comfortable winter temperature. To be honest, it kind of feels like spring compared to the last couple weeks where it was a high of just a mere 9 degrees.

But that being said. As the weather slowly gets warmer, I'm getting more and more excited for the spring trends this season. I've been in love with harem pants since last spring but the trend hasn't started an uprising until this year. If you haven't given them a try they're absolutely the most comfortable dress up or dress down staple that can be worn at almost any occasion. I love how stores are coming out with them in sweats versions and patterned chiffon versions that can easily make them dressier.

But another fashion trend that I'm in love for spring are strappy bralettes! They'll pair off with low arm holes and open low back tops! They can be easily found at any store but some of my favorites are the rose lace bralettes by Victoria's Secret PINK and the strappy bralettes from Brandy Melville USA.

Unfortunately, Punxsutawney Pete predicted 6 more weeks of winter. So I'll have to wait a little while longer to wear my favorite fashion trends.
